Alang’s Rawa, Rawa Island

Pulau Rawa is a small sanctuary off the coast of Mersing, Johor that can only be described as a little tropical jewel hidden amongst an ocean of blue. Still unknown by many, this tiny island can only accommodate two resorts, while the only rule on this sunny paradise is to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beach with its clear waters amongst the company of nature and other joyful travellers.

Alang’s Rawa is such a place to blissfully exercise this rule. A boutique resort with only ten rooms, the accommodation offers serene chalets befitting that of an ideal island paradise setting. Each chalet is designed to hold rooms for different types of groups of travellers, starting with two chalets that are situated right on the beach, making it perfectly suited for couples in search of a private romantic time on the island. Other chalets are designed for larger parties, although they offer similarly amazing views.

According to them, food served at the resort is apparently famed and many guests return to sample their seafood delights. They offer a simple menu featuring seafood and local ingredients. Saturday nights at Alang’s Rawa is further enhanced with a BBQ buffet featuring a wide array of tantalizing dishes, with the price having been included into the resort’s weekend packages. Although alcohol is served on the premises, those wishing to bring their own alcohol will have to pay corkage.

Entertainment on the resort includes lazing around, soaking up the sun, taking a dip in the ocean, and for the more adventurous, snorkelling, sailing, diving, cliff jumping, island-hopping and jungle trekking to name a few. Activities here are just as nature intended. The only downfall to this resort is that rooms are only fan cooled with no air-conditioning. That being said, this is one of the only other Pulau Rawa getaway options that exists on land, and is a good choice for those wishing to immerse themselves in nature.

Prices are divided into weekday and weekend rates and ranges from RM375-RM605++ per person for the cheapest standard room and most expensive room respectively on the weekday. Weekend prices are typically RM100+ more for each room. Checkout the full list of rates here.

Rawa Island Resort, Rawa Island

As previously mentioned, Rawa is a small island and as such, only a minute number of resorts can be found on land. The biggest resort happens to be the Rawa Island Resort, and comes built with an assortment of accommodations types equipped with modern features. The resort includes choices such as standard rooms on the hillside, beachfront rooms, waterfront bungalows that are built on the edge, as shown in the picture above, and frangipani villas.

Dining consists of a variety of local, Western, and Chinese cuisine, with a seafood barbeque dinner on Saturdays. The resort also comes stocked with a bar that sells alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for those in need of a chilled beverage after a day of sunny beach fun.

As one would expect, the usual water sports activities such as snorkelling, kayaking, and diving, are the more popular ways to explore the entrancing underwater biodiversity in all its glory. While not particularly as luxurious as other 5-star resorts in Malaysia, Rawa Island Resort has its own charm and personality thanks to its rich waters, gorgeous surroundings, and uniquely small island geography that make this resort both cosy and tranquil.

Rawa Island Resort Price Range:
Room rates are seasonal dependent and are divided into off peak and peak seasons. Standard hillside rooms can go for as low as RM480 for the first night with a RM380 fee for every night thereafter while the most expensive waterfront bungalows can go for RM1020 for the first night and RM920 for every consecutive night.
