The brand-new purpose-built IGB International School, set to open next year in August, has named its first head of school. The Expat brings you the news of this appointment as another quality International School gets set to arrive on the scene in Malaysia.
IGB International School (IGBIS), a premier Kindergarten to Grade 12 international day school situated in Sierramas, Sungai Buloh welcomes its new Head of School, Mrs Anne Fowles. The new IGB International School, is opening in Sierramas, Sungai Buloh in August 2014, offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Careerrelated Certificate.
Mrs Fowles’s experience of the International Baccalaureat (IB) has spanned over 18 years, including teaching, authorization, and coordination of each IB Programme, in addition to being a trained visiting team leader, a programme consultant and field representative.
During her notable career in education, Mrs Fowles has served as the Academic Director of China-Singapore International Education Services (CSIES) Schools (China), Head of Suzhou Singapore International School, (Suzhou, China), Head of Beijing BISS International School, (Beijing, China), Deputy Head and CEO of New International School Thailand (Bangkok, Thailand), Director of the International School of Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) and Deputy Director and Director of International School Suva (Fiji Islands). Prior to this, she was the Principal of two schools in New Zealand.
At present, Mrs Fowles is the Chair of the IB Heads Council (and as such is Chair of the IB Heads Standing Association) and is a member of the IB Board of Governors. The Heads Council is an advisory group for the Director General of the IB and the IB Senior Leadership Team. For four years Mrs Fowles was the Chair of the MYP Standing Committee of the IB and she has been a member of the IB Asia Pacific Regional Council, Chair of the Association of Chinese and Mongolian IB Schools (ACMIBS) and President of the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS). She is committed to the IB philosophy, holistic international education and academic excellence and has worked with and learned from leading schools, recognized worldwide for their outstanding programmes.
With many years of diverse experience heading international and national schools in six Asia Pacific countries, Mrs Fowles has an excellent understanding of the needs of the schools in the region. She is an advisor and experienced visiting team chair of the Council of International Schools (CIS), New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is a CIS Report Reader/Advisor. She was further recognized through election to the Board of the East Asian Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS), where she
served as a director for five years.
