Malaysia, known for its diverse culture and exquisite food, has some of the most mind-blowing and entertaining theme parks in the whole of Asia. Hannah Jackson takes a look at some of those theme parks.
1. Berjaya Times Square Theme Park, Kuala Lumpur
Step into a world of eccentric inventions and never-ending fun at one of the biggest indoor theme parks in Malaysia, consisting of over fourteen rides and two themes; Galaxy Station and Fantasy Garden.
Take a trip into the universe with the Galaxy Station’s 800m long Supersonic Odyssey, the biggest indoor roller coaster in the world! If you love all things scary, then step into the Haunted Chambers to scare yourself silly with real-life actors and special effect lights and sounds, or encourage your young ones to join Professor Cosmo as he takes a trip down Fantasy Avenue. This amazing theme park is located on the 5th and 7th floor of Berjaya Times Square.

2. Sunway Lagoon, Selangor
This multi-award winning sensation is certainly not one to be missed. Since its inception in 1993, the theme park has grown to an-awe inspiring feet of over 80 rides, along with five amazing parks in one attraction!
If you are looking to sunbathe and surf the waves of the sunny surf, then head on down to the Water Park. Think you’re brave enough? Then make your way over to the Scream Park, and while you’re at it, why not swing your way through the Amusement Park or even the Extreme Park, if you’re really up for it. Then of course there is the Wildlife Park, for an up-close encounter with the animals.

3. iCity Theme Park, Selangor
Located in Shah Alam, this place is also known as the city of digital lights as it has a state-of-the-art LED showcase. Apart from the shopping experience, iCity is also equipped with a theme park where visitors can enjoy thrilling rides and fun games. Some of the attractions in the theme park are a water park, a 5D cinema, house of horror, and a snowalk.
Entrance fee: RM75 for all rides and attractions, RM25 for water park only

4. District 21, Putrajaya
The theme at this park: Apocalypse! This action-packed park in a 70,000 sq ft. indoor adventure located within 101 City Mall in Putrajaya. District 21 emphasises active engagement. As such, guests will have to climb, jump, slide, and fly to enjoy the 10 adventure attractions. There’s a rock climbing wall, a pump track for cycling, a trampoline launch pad, a maze of verticle tunnels, a skytrex adventure and more.

Active pass for all attractions: RM58 (Monday to Friday), RM75 (Saturday, Sunday, public holiday)
Non-active pass: RM10; children under 90cm and wheelchair bound persons enter for free

5. Genting Highlands, Pahang
This highland wonder, more commonly known as the ‘City of Entertainment,’ has been welcoming visitors from the 1970s. Genting Highlands has three theme parks (Outdoor Theme Park, First World Indoor Theme Park, and Water Park), with a total of 40 rides.
This man-made beauty pierces the sky with its magnificent rides, swirls of tubes and pulsing night life. Feel your adrenaline rush through your veins as you scream with excitement while swerving around the roller-coaster tracks. Anything is possible, from a cable ride through the mountains, to a dive on the flying coaster.
It is only 55 minutes away from Kuala Lumpur, and even offers luxurious accommodation. Genting Highlands also has the only “legal” land-based casino, Casino de Genting, in the country.

Some attractions at the Genting Highlands theme park is currently closed to facilitate works on a brand new 20th Century Fox Theme Park. The theme park will fully re-open in late 2016.
6. The Lost World of Tambun, Perak
Lost World Of Tambun is a great destination for a family holiday packed with action and adventure. The experience involves everything from comfortable hotels to amusement parks and even eco-adventures. The Lost Work parks includes the water theme park, amusement park, a tiger valley, an and aventure park – there’s definitely something for everybody.

7. Escape, Penang
This outdoor theme park is all about excitement in a natural environment. The park taps into the nostalgia of playing outdoors in this increasingly electronic lifestyle, taking fun outside to a low-tech, high-fun environment. With rides like Kite Flyer, Gecko Tower, A Maze and more, Escape is great for adventurers of all ages, abilities, and energy levels.
