An article in the Star Newspaper reports that more Japanese are choosing to make Malaysia their second home. This is partly due to Malaysia’s political stability and economic growth. According to the Japanese Embassy, the devastating tsunami and nuclear crisis in Fukushima in Japan last year were also a driving factor for Japanese to relocate to Malaysia.
According to MM2H statistics, Japanese applying to participate in the MM2H programme doubled from 195 in 2010 to 423 in 2011. A total of 787 Japanese applications were approved between 2009 and 2011.
The statistics also show that Japanese have overtaken the Iranians in snapping up properties in the Klang Valley.
“Malaysian condominiums now incorporate a sprawling lifestyle complex approach, which includes amenities such as big swimming pools and tennis courts,” says Datuk Seri Michael Yam, President of Real Estate and Housing Developers Association. He continues, “You get good value for money, which you don’t necessarily get in other countries, which are more densely packed. Mon’t Kiara which is popular among expats is one of the biggest Japanese enclaves in the country.”
