“The Fire and Rescue Department together with KTM Bhd will release an emergency action plan manual to reduce panic among passengers on board trains during accidents,” the New Straits Times reports.
The manual will contain information on rescue procedures as well as a guide on handling emergencies involving train services.
“The manual is meant to be a reference and guide, not only to department personnel and KTMB staff but to all interested parties, including passengers,” said KTMB Executive Vice-President Lt-Col Sarbini Tijan.
“If all parties know their duties, they can help smooth the rescue process and help overcome a crisis or accident involving train service.”
KTM transports around 100,000 passengers daily or four million passengers a month. It is important that passengers know how to rescue themselves and others, as well as reduce panic in the event of an accident.
