Those looking to hire Indonesian maids can soon expect to pay more, the Star Online reported.
According to a statement by Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam, maid agencies in Indonesia and Malaysia have complained saying that the fee charged for each maid is too low. The agencies feel that it was not worth it, compared to agencies in other countries in the region.
“They said the cost (as outlined) under the memorandum of understanding (between Malaysia and Indonesia on domestic workers) is too low for them (to make a profit).
“So we have told them to go and discuss and come back and give us the realistic cost, which eventually will allow them (maids) to come,” he said.
