Talent Corp, the organisation set up last year to improve the talent pool available to companies operating in Malaysia has done very well in one of its objectives, namely attracting skilled Malaysians to return to the country.
From 2001 to 2010, 1,130 applications were approved under the Returning Experts programme, which offers incentives to skilled Malaysians who agree to return to their home country to work. This has been exceeded in just the last 18 months following the setting up of Talent Corp.
During that period, some 1,192 Malaysians have been approved under the programme. While this growth was undoubtedly helped by the downturn in the economies of many developed countries there is no doubt that the efforts of Talent Corp were a major factor in the sharp increase in applications.
