A huge Buddha statue made out of jade will be on display until the 24th of March at Wisma Hrih Lotus in Jalan Pahang. Wisma Hrih is formerly known as Kompleks Galleria.
The jade statue, which stands at 2.5 metres, is carved from a rare 18-tonne jade boulder, which is known as the Polar Pride. The statue was carved by over 30 jade sculptors from Thailand, Nepal and Australia. The same sculptors also carved a 95cm statue of Tara (the goddess).
Both statues were brought to Malaysia as part of the Universal Peace Movement by the Jade Buddha. Kuala Lumpur is the 65th city on the Jade Buddha and Tara world tour.
According to the movement’s founder, Ian Green, the next stop for the world tour is Penang. Later on, the statues will make their way to Tokyo, Yokohama, Korea and the United States. The number of cities the world tour will visit is uncertain, but, it is certain that the tour will end in Bendigo, Australia, where the statues will be permanently placed.
