Malaysians living outside of the country can still cast their votes for the upcoming General Elections. Only difference is that they will have to do it earlier.

According to the Election Commission, Malaysians living abroad can vote on 28 April 2013. They can do so at their respective diplomatic missions.

The Election Commission have already informed eligible Malaysian voters living abroad through email that they can collect their ballot papers at their respective missions. Voters can also choose to post their ballot papers directly to returning officers in charge of the constituencies they are registered under. Ballot papers must reach the Election Commission by 5pm on polling day, 5 May.

All 103 Malaysian missions are secured with witnesses and durable canvas bags to ensure safety of the ballot papers.

According to statistics, around 6,300 Malaysians living abroad will be casting their vote for the first time thanks to an initiative proposed by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Electoral Reform in 2011.
