It was an evening filled with good food – and a lot of it – and good wine. Guests streamed into the posh dining room of Emperor at the Grand Dorsett hotel and settled in for a splendid meal of Chinese culinary delights. Before diners took their seats, they relaxed and chatted over glasses of TerraMater Paso de Sol Sauvignon Blanc, a crisp white wine that served as an excellent aperitif.
Once the appetites were put into gear, guests were treated to an eight-course meal, kicked off by the traditional Yee Sang with salmon. Once the Yee Sang was tossed to ensure prosperity in the coming Year of the Snake, seafood was the order of business. A selection of wine was made available throughout the meal, with a bold Cabernet-Merlot blend and a lovely Chardonnay on offer from Peter Lehmann’s Wildcard range of wines.
As the meal progressed, dishes from red snapper to tiger prawns to a delicious fried rice with crabmeat and scallops ensured that seafood lovers were well-sated. A tasty crispy fried spring chicken rounded out the main dishes, and for those guests wanting to end on a sweet note, a light chilled honey sago and a deep-fried Chinese New Year cake were presented. It was a great way to kick off the Lunar New Year and hopefully ensure a succession of many more fantastic wine dinners to come!
