Fans of the popular video game franchise Angry Birds will soon be able to interact with the famously furious fowls in a whole new way. A 26,000 square foot Angry Birds theme park located in Komtar JBCC Johor Baru is scheduled for completion in May 2014. This large indoor park is currently planned to include party facilities, a retail store and a restaurant in addition to a main activity area. Rovio Entertainment Ltd (the company that created Angry Birds) chief operations officer Harri Koponen, based in Finland, has recently completed a signing ceremony with Johor Corp’s subsidiary Damansara Assets Sdn Bhd, ratifying the parks construction.
“Our goal is to delight the fans, both adults and children and create an exciting experience for the whole family,’’ stated Koponen, whose 10-year licensing agreement with Damansara Assets means that the latter company have a right to make full use of the characters featured in the Angry Birds franchise.
The astounding success garnered by the Angry Birds video game (in which a player must catapult avian projectiles at fortified pigs) has encompassed books, television shows and even the Star Wars Franchise! In 2011 Rovio Entertainment rejected a 2.25 billion dollar acquisition of Angry Birds by Zynga, a staggering indicator of just how profitable the game has become! Indeed, Angry Birds is proof that developing simple animated cross platforms game-apps is not a paltry (or is that poultry) enterprise.
