Dr Hadi Manap, Professor Dr Jose Rajan, Mohd Najib Razali and Professor Dr Jasni Mohamed Zain, all researchers from UNIVERSITI Malaysia Pahang (UMP) were the recipients of four gold medals at the recent Invention and New Product Exposition (Inpex) 2013 in Pittsburg, America’s largest invention tradeshow. The achievements of these four innovative and talented individuals has served as a great boon to Malaysia’s international prestige.
Dr. Hadi Manap of UMP’s Faculty of Technology, won his award for a real-time ammonia alarm system which detects harmful chemicals in the air much faster (3 seconds faster to be exact) than most other mechanisms.
Professor Dr Jose Rajan and his team were awarded for their project which involves utilizing palm kernel shells and waste for clean energy purposes. Mohd Najib Razali was given his medal for a similar project, entailing treatment processes for transforming palm oil mill waste into useful industrial products. Najib cited putting the 50 to 60 tons of harmful waste produced monthly by palm oil industries to better use as the impetus behind his research.
Professor Dr Jasni Mohamed Zain of the computer science faculty won her award for a time-saving software system which rapidly identifies different types of timber.
UMP vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Daing Ibrahim Nasir lauded the achievements of the four inventors as a “100% Success” and proof that the university was more than capable of producing world class innovations.
