Expats who made the wise decision to attend last month’s wine dinner at Tatsu enjoyed an evening of great Japanese food, complemented by a nice selection of various Australian wines, and, as always, an effervescent group of happy diners as company.
Canapés were passed around as guests arrived and chatted amiably in Tatsu’s welcoming chic interior, enjoying glasses of Tulloch Semillon from Australia’s Hunter Valley and admiring the restaurant’s décor. Tucked away in the beautiful InterContinental Hotel in the heart of the city, Tatsu is a little-known gem for those who delight in fine Japanese cuisine. As the evening progressed, diners eagerly took their seats and pored over the menu of what was to come.
The meal began with a fresh tuna sashimi appetizer, surrounded by a creamy, buttery sauce that had several diners using their fresh dinner rolls to mop up every drop! As glasses were filled with another lovely offering from Tulloch, a 2007 Chardonnay, the next course – a steamed egg custard topped with crab meat – arrived.
As the evening progressed, dishes of grilled beef teppanyaki accented by smoked duck and melted brie were presented, and the white wine segued to red with the offering of both Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from Angove Family Winemakers.
A most unusual finish to the meal, for diners eager to top-up with something sweet came in the form of a green tea fondue with pieces of tempura-fried dried fruits to dip in the creamy, warm green tea sauce.
A unique and tasty finish to a meal served in a truly amazing restaurant!
