How would you like to share your music compositions and audio files with people from all corners of the world? Making that possible is SoundCloud, an online audio sharing website founded by two Swedish sound designers Eric Wahlforss and Alexander Ljung. Essentially, this platform allows you to listen, share and distribute original sounds created by people from around the world.
The platform, which was started in 2007, has its headquarters in Berlin, Germany. SoundCloud is the largest community of audio and music creators from around the world. The number of SoundCloud users reached 10 million in January 2012, and continues to grow each day.
Using SoundCloud – How it works
SoundCloud gives you access to the largest community of independent musicians, sound and podcast creators. The platform allows budding musicians to be heard by anyone, anytime, and anywhere. The platform, which is also available as a mobile app, is easy to use, which is one of the reasons SoundCloud has a huge user base. As of 2013, a total of 5 million SoundCloud apps were downloaded by mobile users from around the world.
You too can start using this platform with a few simple steps. To begin with, create a SoundCloud user id and password, and select the music genres and type of audio you wish to access and follow on the site. Once you login, you can share your original sound files, or explore the music or audio created by other members of the site. Even better, all the sounds are free to listen to!
Why SoundCloud?
There are a number of sites that allow you to access music from different corners of the world but SoundCloud has its own advantages.
One reason people like SoundCloud is that it’s a great place to discover new music that you won’t find on most major music streaming sites. However, if you want to listen to your favorite songs from the famous, well-established musicians, you’re better off using the mainstream music sources.
Another reason people like SoundCloud is that you can access more than just music, such as audiobooks and podcasts covering business, politics, news, storytelling, sports, science, entertainment, spirituality, religion and more.
Many of the files on SoundCloud can also be downloaded, which is yet another feature that most free music sharing platforms don’t allow.
The bottom line is, SoundCloud is just the place to go to for finding music, audio and sounds of all kinds, from different corners of the globe.

SoundCloud is such a refreshing site for music. Definitely a good place to go to escape the mainstream and find some new tunes.
Agreed. Some cool remixes on there too.
