It is that time of the year again when music portals and media organizations come out with in-house lists of the most streamed songs, artists and albums. The music streaming giant, Spotify, launched in Malaysia in April 2013. Like many other music websites, Spotify has also come out with lists of the most streamed songs, artists and albums.
Spotify is one of the most popular digital music services in the world right now. It was recently valued at US$ 4 billion (~ RM12.9 billion). More than 24 million people visit it every month. The website also has six million paying subscribers. So let’s see what are some of the favorite songs of this large community of music listeners.

Artists who have made the top 100 lists
Interestingly, popular singers like Rihanna, Katy Perry, Usher and Lady Gaga, who usually have songs in the Top 10, are missing from the list (top ten) this year. Other singers, who were relatively unknown till some time back, have catapulted to the top.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ ‘Can’t Hold Us- featuring Ray Dalton’ is the most streamed song in the world on Spotify in 2013, followed by ‘Wake Me Up’, by Avicci. The third song on the list, ‘Thrift- featuring Wanz’, is also by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Other newcomers who have also made it to the top are Imagine Dragons with their song ‘Radioactive’, Passengers with ‘Let Her Go’, The Lumineers with ‘Ho Hey’ and others.
Spotify has also come out with a ‘Top 100 Tracks – Malaysia’ list. Most of the songs on the ‘Top 100- International’ list have also made it to the Malaysia list. The leading songs played in Malaysia were ‘Just Give Me a Reason’ by P!nk & Nate Ruess, ‘Mirrors’ by Justin Timerblake, and ‘Radioactive’ by Imagine Dragons. Within Asia, the Taiwanese Jay Chou made the Top 100 Malaysia list ranking his song in 95th place.
