Every December, search engine giant, Google, comes out with a list of the most searched topics.
The lists for Malaysia (2013) shows a mix of eclectic tastes. These include most popular searches in general and for specific categories, like politicians, fashion brands, local destinations, T.V series, people, sports personalities and more.
Below we’ve highlighted some of the popular search phrases used in Malaysia during 2013.
Google Trends of 2013
Most searched people
Recently deceased Hollywood star, Paul Walker, has made it to the top of the list. His role as the antagonist in the Fast & Furious series has earned him many fans in Malaysia. Child singing prodigy, Tegar, who has been called Malaysia’s Justin Beiber, is placed 2nd on the list.
Politicians and TV Shows
Anwar Ibrahim, the firebrand leader of the People’s Justice Party, has snatched the 1st place from the incumbent prime minister, Najib Razak, in the list of most searched politicians. Popular T.V serial, Setia Hujung Nyawa is at the 1st place on the most searched T.V soaps list, scoring over other popular series.
Sports personalities and movies
Read Madrid’s fast striking, flamboyant footballer, Gareth Bale is at the 1st place on the list of sports personalities. Among Malaysian movies, KL Gangster 2, a sequel to 2011’s KL Gangster, a touching saga of two brothers, has topped the list. This is followed by the horror movie, Highland Special, a sordid tale of a documentary shoot gone wrong. Interestingly, The Conjuring, another horror movie is the most searched Hollywood movie in Malaysia, in 2013. If you take a closer look, you will see that the Malaysian rankings have a nice sprinkling of international news and celebrities. This shows the strong penetration of the web in Malaysia.
