A popular prepaid internet service provider, Maxis Hotlink, is now offering 4G LTE connectivity to its users. The company, which is aimed at providing affordable internet connectivity to the youth of Malaysia, is also offering added free data to its subscribers to celebrate the New Year with a big bang. Maxis has just publicized that it has started offering 4G LTE internet connectivity to these subscribers. What’s more – subscribers who sign up for the 3GB or 1GB monthly internet passes will also get up to 50% extra data for no additional cost.

How existing Hotlink customers can get 4G
If you are an existing Hotlink user and want to switch to 4G LTE internet connectivity, then you can do so by exchanging your current Hotlink SIM card for a 4G SIM card and this is free. With the new 4G SIM card, you will be able to surf the new at speeds of up to 75Mbps, which is about 10 times faster than the maximum speed offered by 3G.

Where is it offered?
Not all places in and around Malaysia can avail of this 4G internet connectivity. For now, Maxis is offering 4G internet connectivity to some places around Malaysia and most areas of Johor Bahru, Kuantan, Melaka, Seremban, Kota Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Alor Setar, Ipoh, Penang and Klang Valley. Other alternatives
Maxis Hotlink is not the only telecom provider offering 4G internet connectivity to Malaysians. U Mobile is another company offering 4G internet to its customers who have taken advantage of its prepaid services. However, U Mobile is offering its 4G LTE services only in four major areas of Malaysia. Apart from Big telecom companies, MVNO owned telecom company Altel – a much smaller enterprise, is also offering 4G LTE internet connectivity to its users. Some think that they offer better coverage than U Mobile when it comes to 4G.
Important points
- Maxis is offering the 50% extra data promotion only from January 8th to February 28th, 2014
- This means that if you do a top-up on your 1GB plan (costs RM30) you will an extra get 500MB and on the 3GB plan (costs RM68) you will get an extra 1.5 GB.
