Guest at the Thistle Port Dickson hotel was recently treated to a spectacular lion dance performance at the hotel’s lobby entrance, on the third day of Chinese New Year.
The thunderous sounds of the cymbals and the beating of the drums were accompanied by the ‘roar’ of two lions and one Lion cub. The 10-member troupe from Persatuan Kesenian Gui-Qing Negeri Sembilan gave a stunning performance much to the delight of hotel guests. Their acrobatic stunts on stilts followed by the God of Prosperity ‘Choy San’ blessing the hotel guests with abundance of prosperity and good health and same time distributing oranges was a memorable experience for hotel guests to share traditions and celebrate an authentic Chinese New Year festival in the resort.
The finale of the performance was handing over the ‘platter of prosperity’ consisting of Mandarin oranges, pineapple, pomelos and green lettuce to the resort’s director of operations, Sivanesan Subramaniam.
“The Lion Dance is an important yearly tradition that we observe during Chinese New Year. Today’s lion dance performance not only brought many different races together as one big family but gave an opportunity to discover the many colourful cultures, flavours and traditions of Malaysia,” said Sivanesan.
