SriLankan Airlines will join the Oneworld Alliance on May 1st, 2014, becoming the first Indian subcontinent to enter a global airline alliance.
The Colombo-based carrier will bring two new destinations to Oneworld’s network; Hambantota in Sri Lanka and Tiruchirapalli in India.
Beginning May 1st, about 100,000 members of SriLankan’s Flysmiles loyalty programme will have their frequent flyer privileges extended to all Oneworld member airlines. This also means that the 150 million members on Oneworld’s airlines’ frequent flyer programmes will be able to earn and redeem rewards and tier points when flying on SriLankan Airlines.
