On 30 November last year, over 80 of our “Penang International” community, which includes locals as well as expats, got themselves to Batu Ferringhi where they enjoyed a Mingles courtesy of SDB, the developers for the By the Sea project. Many of us had driven past and seen the site but not known what the interiors of the living spaces would be like.

So it was absolutely fascinating to see the layout, and people were able to wander through the show flat which leads off the room where the Mingles event was held. A simple, easy-to-livein space of a living room with kitchen area, a master bedroom and bathroom, and a second room which could either be used as study or second bedroom. All with access to a verandah giving directly onto the sea. As there are very few apartments in Batu Ferringhi which have direct access to the shore, the By the Sea development is likely to become quite sought after.

Wine was enjoyed from Bacchus Wine Shop in Burmah Road, as were delicious nibbles and finger foods. It was a chance to chat and catch up with old friends as well as to make some new ones. As usual, the CEO of the Expat Group, Andy Davison came up from Kuala Lumpur with his wife Lini, who had played a major role in organising the event.

Despite the fact that the Mingle started at 6:30, not the customary time of 7 pm, the two-and-a-half hours sped by and all too soon it was time to leave – until the next one!
