Ikea Malaysia has recalled its Gunggung Swing product after reports surfaced that the product did not meet the necessary quality requirements.
According to The Star’s feedback from Ikea’s business area manager for children’s product Cindy Andersen, Ikea has zero tolerance when it comes to safety and health risk in children’s products. The company will always take immediate action when they learn of a possible risk factor involved with one of their products.
“At IKEA, children are considered the most important people in the world, and the home is the most important playground.
“Some of the fundamental cornerstones of that work, apart from having the child’s perspective, are safety and quality.”
According to Andersen, children do not take safety into consideration when they are playing and therefore, it is up to the company to ensure their products are safe for the children. Andersen also stressed that Ikea’s products are always tested at accredited test labs before being launched in stores.
“However, in the case of the Gunggung swing, incidents have occurred where the fittings in the suspension have broken.
“To prevent any further incidents as such, Ikea has chosen to recall the product and the swing can be returned to the Ikea store for a full refund.”
