The Alice Smith School is delighted to announce that the recent A Level results rank our students’ achievements with many of the best schools in the UK and worldwide.
74% of the grades achieved were A*, A or B. Amongst the many students achieving exceptional academic standards, 26% of our Sixth Form cohort achieved straight A*/A grades with 3 students achieving 4A* and six students attaining at least 3A*.
Head Boy for the academic year 2013- 2014, Peter Jackson, is one of three top performing students who achieved a remarkable 4A* grades. Having been with the school for the past 14 years, Peter has been actively involved in a number of school activities over the years, particularly within the music department as a saxophonist. This has included playing in the orchestra, jazz band, and also performing solo and in groups at a number of school events.
“It is important to find enough time for both academic life and being involved in activities in order to enjoy all that there is on offer. A key strategy is to always be doing something! If you make the most use of your time by always furthering yourself in some area, you will find that you can achieve a lot more than you would expect,” said Peter.
Peter will be heading to the University of Cambridge pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering.
Another top scorer, Vandit Trevedi, also achieved 4A*. Vandit added, “Getting involved in school teams, signing up for clubs, and also managing academics will force a student to be effective with managing his or her time and resources. The sense of community has also been one of the most important things I have experienced at Alice Smith.” Vandit is studying Petroleum Engineering at the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Jacelyn Lee Sweet Yee said, “I am relieved with my good results and am happy that I’m able to meet the offer of my first choice university. My teachers and parents have provided me great support and guidance, but I also believe that excellence is something that lies within oneself. Sixth Form has been very challenging and requires a quantum leap of effort.” Jacelyn will be heading to the University College London (UCL) to study Biological Science.
Each year, the Alice Smith School is proud to award bright and deserving post SPM Malaysian students full scholarships, enabling them to pursue their A Level studies at the school. Quah Paik Suan and Angertdev Singh were both scholarship recipients in 2013.
Elated with their A Level results, they shared that Alice Smith has offered them invaluable exposure to a broad array of learning opportunities and experiences, and their time at the school was a great pathway in preparing them for their university life.
Paik Suan looks forward to furthering her studies in Actuarial Science at the University of Hong Kong and Angertdev is excited to study Chemical Engineering at UCL.
President of the Interact Club, Michelle Wong was also thrilled with her results. She believes that it is important to allocate time wisely between studies and being involved in extracurricular activities. Michelle will be studying Medicine at Trinity College, Dublin.
At GCSE Level, 64% of all grades awarded were A* or A. From our cohort of 110 students in Year 11, 72 students obtained five or more A*and A grades in their results with nine students achieving 8A* or more in all their subjects.
An active Chair, moderator and participant at several Model United Nations Conferences in Malaysia, GCSE scorer, Afiq Hatta is overwhelmed withhis 11A* grades.
“I’ve met many remarkable people at Alice Smith; whether they be academically strong or artistically talented or amazing at sports, they have certainly inspired me. The diversity of people’s backgrounds at the school has also taught me to be more culturally aware. I’m also almost overwhelmed each day by the things teachers and students in our school have managed to accomplish.”
Another GCSE scorer, Celeste Wijnands cannot wait to experience Sixth Form life. “The people at Alice Smith shine with a genuine passion for learning, and living and experiencing it has been the best part of my life.” Aspiring to pursue a career in writing, Celeste will be taking Chemistry, Maths, History and English Literature as her AS subjects.
