Expats have been pointing out to us the apparent contradiction between the Whistleblower’s Protection Act, which we have covered several times, and the frequent announcements of major investigations and planned prosecution of people releasing confidential documents regarding 1MDB and other bodies.
The Whistleblower’s Act was intended to encourage people to highlight cases in which they felt corruption or other wrongdoing was taking place. Recent actions by the Attorney General’s office seem to indicate that anyone doing that today can expect to end up in serious trouble. Clearly if they are fabricating documents, then this would be a concern, but to date no news carried in foreign media based on these documents has proven to be false.
Expats view this change of policy with considerable concern as they were previously very pleased to read about the increased focus on ending corrupt practices.

Theifs like inspector Azizi bin hj Abd halim will also steal whistle blowers property .
Don’t be fooled by the name.
If you read the act carefully, you’ll see it’s actually a Whistle-Blowers Persecution Act.
Just like the National Security Act is actually Malay for ‘National Dictatorship Act’.
But they’re not expecting to fool us – they only need to fool the people (mostly rural and less educated) who will still vote for them.
where lawlessness becomes the law, honest citizens become cheats, crooks and dacoit. bad governance discriminate,it ill treats everyone equally.
It is a contradiction when whistle blowing protection only applies to whistle blowing on non-government persons or entities. Corruption is corruption no matter who are the participants.
