Every week in 2016 we’ll try to bring you the best of the new movies in cinemas in Malaysia. So, here’s a highlight of four movies that are being released tomorrow in cinemas, 7th January 2016. These movies will be showing in various cinemas across KL:
The Big Short
This is a comedy-drama based on true events and the best-selling book by Michael Lewis. The film revolves around four people who came up with a bold investment idea during the global economic collapse in 2007/8, triggered by the housing market build-up and credit bubble.
When everyone else failed to predict this financial crisis, these four people decided to capitalise on it as they ventured into the world of modern banking. This film is littered with big names such as Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, Melissa Leo, Marisa Tomei and Hamish Linklater. Check out the trailer below:

Macbeth
Macbeth is a war-drama adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy, direct by Justin Keurzel. The film, set in Scotland, features Academy Award winners Micheal Fassbender and Marion Cotillard who play Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, respectively.
Upon hearing a prophecy where he becomes the next King of Scotland, Macbeth, spurred on by his wife, murders the king and takes the throne for himself. Check out the trailer below:

Backtrack
Adrien Brody plays a psychologist, Peter, who is haunted by the death of his daughter in this psychological thriller. Peter then realises that the patients he’s been seeing are ghosts and he is set on a journey into his past where he discovers a secret which only he can make right. The film also starts Sam Neil who play’s Peter’s mentor in the film. Here’s the trailer:

The Forest
Set in the Aokigahara Forest in Japan, Natalie Dormer plays Sara Price, a young American woman in search of her twin sister who has mysteriously disappeared. It is said that this forest is where people go to commit suicide.
Determined to find out the truth about her sister’s fate, Sara ventures into the forest despite being warned not to stray from the path. Sara is confronted by the tormented souls of the dead that prey on people who wander into the forest. Here’s the trailer:
