Quite apart from the tourist mecca and island vacation hotspot that’s known to so many, Bali is also the island that over four million call home. It is a land of breathtaking beauty and stunning contrasts, from serene villages set idyllically amid terraced rice paddies to the crashing surf of the ocean at the base of towering cliffs.

Slumbering volcanoes, ever watchful and occasionally temperamental; the complex and enigmatic Balinese culture, unique to the world; delicious local food and snacks, whether served in village warungs or roving kaki lima carts on the beach. This is the immutable Balinese love of beauty and balance, as seen in their gardens, their craftsmanship, and their dance – and above all, the heart of its people.
