Khairul Idham Pawi, a 17-year old from Perak, earned his first career win at the Argentina Motorcycle Grand Prix in the Moto3 category. This win also puts him in the history books as the first Malaysian to claim a win in a MotoGP race. Riding for Honda, Pawi finished a massive 26 seconds ahead of Spaniard Jorge Navarro who came in second.
This is the second race of the season and with his podium finish in Argentina – after finishing 22nd in the first race in Qatar – Khairul Idham is now fourth in the overall rankings for the Moto3 category this season with 25 points.
Malaysians flooded social media with congratulatory posts and expressed their pride and joy of hearing the Negaraku national anthem being played as the Malaysian stood proudly on the podium.
Another Malaysian who drew the attention of the country was Adam Norrodin driving for Honda. After a crash on the final corner of the race, Adam showcased remarkable determination when he got back up and pushed his bike across the finish line. That determination saw Adam finishing in 19th position and earning his team another 5 points.
