Many of us know that Malaysia was gifted two giant pandas in 2014 by China, to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the countries.
Fu Wa and Feng Yi were born in China on August 23rd 2006. Once in Malaysia, the pandas were renamed – Fu Wa is now Xing Xing and Feng Yi is known as Liang Liang.
On 18th August 2015, Liang Liang gave birth to a cute little cub. This little cub drew the attention of the world as it put Malaysia on the map as one of the few countries where a panda cub was conceived in captivity.
Following the birth, Zoo Negara conducted a nationwide naming competition. Among the thousands of entries submitted, a short-list was presented to the Prime Minister and the Chinese Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA). They agreed on a name and it was approved by the cabinet late last month.
This now not-so-little fluffy bear weighs 16.5kg and is living happily with his parents at Zoo Negara. Sadly, Nuan Nuan will have to return to China in about a year. Here’s video of Nuan Nuan exploring the panda exhibit with his mother for the first time at Zoo Negara:
Grab the chance to see our cute Giant Panda and her cub in the exhibit. You will definitely fall in love with them! Here is the trial for the panda cub to get used to the exhibit with her mother.
