Over 100 of guests of Garden International School community were serenaded with live jazz and Latin music presented by the school’s performing band at No Black Tie, KL recently. The two-hour jazz concert featured a mixture of Latin, swing and funk genres.
Comprising three teachers and 14 students, the performing band, Latin Express played a number of classical and contemporary jazz pieces such as Sway and It Had Better Be Tonight.
“It was a great opportunity for the students to play at such an established jazz venue. It’s amazing to see them growing and learning right before your eyes,” commented Head of Music Helen Long. “The students were fantastic. They were confident, talented and every piece was well played,” said one of the guests, Ken Lim.
Latin Express was formed in 2011 to raise funds following the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in the same year. Besides playing for the school orchestra, Latin Express also plays at the Chinese New Year orphans party every year and during school and alumni events.
