Chickaboo the ostrich was being transported by her owner in a Toyota Hilux to a new home in a farm in Semenyih, when the flightless bird squeezed out of her pen and made a run for it down the Federal Highway.

The owner, Darren Chow, told the Malay Mail that Chickaboo and his other pets, including turkeys and ducks, are educational animals that make rounds to schools in the Klang Valley. Chow said that six-month old Chickaboo is quite popular among school children and the homeless along the Jalan Haji Taib area.

When Chickaboo made her great escape, Chow tried to chase her on foot but the bird was too fast. Eventually, a couple of people managed to corner the ostrich four hours later and waited until Chow arrived to coax Chickaboo back into the pen.

Chickaboo is now safely at the farm in Semenyih, according to Malaysiakini, and if you’re wondering, the bird will probably have a long, happy life at the farm. You can rest assured that Chickaboo won’t end up as someone’s dinner or handbag, since the farm doesn’t breed birds for meat or pelts.
