October in Malaysia is essentially a full month of motorsports – petrolheads, rejoice! The Malaysian F1 and MotoGP are two of the biggest motoring events in the country, and this year, they are set to be bigger and better than before. Malaysia ‘s Sepang International Circuit will also be hosting the F1 feeder series – GP2 and GP3 – which will be a first for Malaysia.

Sepang will host the 16th race on the 2016 F1 calendar and the 17th on the MotoGP calendar. The Formula One Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix will take place from 30th September to 2nd October while the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix will be held from 28th to 30th October.

Since it’ll be a month-long extravaganza, we have everything that you need to know, laid out in one place.

2. Activities

Leading up to race week, Sepang International Circuit (SIC) will be organising live viewing sessions of Formula 1 races with contests and giveaways. There will also be a Formula 1 Tour, a new feature for the motorsports extravaganza. The Formula 1 Tour will give fans the chance to get a close look at a Formula 1 Car. The car will travel to Kuala Lumpur from Singapore, right after the Singapore Grand Prix, stopping at Johor, Melaka, and Selangor.

On race weekend, the X-track will be back, showcasing motorsports-themed thrills for all ages like drifting, rallying, go-karting, ATV, the Strider Cup and many other activities for children and adults to enjoy. There will also be plenty to do in the Mall Area – spectators can savour the awesome supercars showcase, experience the latest enhanced simulator machines at the Formula 1 Gamezone, and shop at the Formula 1 Village.

Also, make sure you don’t miss the special events on race day: the classic cars display, supercar convoy, the terrific airshow, and the after race concert headlined by Usher.

3. Social media contests

This year, SIC is organising a series of special contests on Facebook and Instagram that offer fans and ticket holders exclusive opportunities to participate. The prizes include a pair of Hospitality pass to watch the race from the VIP box and Main Grandstand tickets to bring your friends and family along. Be sure to follow SIC on Facebook and Instagram to keep track of the various contests.

4. Ticket packages

Here’s a list of available tickets packages. Each ticket is valid for a three-day admission and all prices are inclusive of 6% GST.

The Team Tribune includes a return trip on an executive coach from Nu Sentral to Sepang, as well as a meal served by hostesses and team merchandise of your choice. At the circuit, you will be seated at a special tribune zone with other fans of the same team. Look out for your favourite drivers – they might be stopping by to say hello to their number one fans at the tribune from the track.

If you’re a fan of Usher and you’d like to get the best seats in the house for the after race concert, get a seat at the Star Stand. It also offers a splendid view of the circuit during the race. Food trucks and other amenities set up at the Star Stand add another level of convenience.

You can also choose to purchase add-ons like a food and beverage package which includes your choice of a meal, one mineral water, and some fruits. If you’d rather not drive to the circuit on race day and face the hassle of parking, you can puchase a transportation package that will ferry you to and from SIC and KL Sentral.

Child tickets for children aged 7 to 12 are available with up to 50% price reduction, while disabled* spectators can also purchase tickets at 50% off for accessible seating zones.

During the MotoGP weekend, you shouldn’t miss the Mega MotoGP carnival where fans can find discounted souvenirs, accessories and gears, limited edition merchandise, and even bikes – with over 80 booths to explore. Don’t forget to join other activities like the Riders’ Autograph Session, Public Pit Lane Walk for a view behind the scene, stunt show, and the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup which is the support race for the weekend.

3. Ticket packages

Here’s a list of available Malaysia MotoGP tickets packages. Each ticket is valid for a three-day admission and all prices are inclusive of 6% GST.

The MotoGP tickets are selling fast – with the event estimated to be a sold out one. If you have not purchased your ticket, get it now and don’t miss out on the biggest two-wheel motorsports event in Malaysia this year.

You can also purchase a food and beverage package for more convenience at only RM26.50. Choose from nasi lemak, spaghetti bolognaise, or chicken quesadillas. Other add-ons include the transportation package for travelling via RapidKL Bus to SIC from KL Sentral or KLCC and back, or a one-way trip from KLIA2 to SIC.

Nabil Jefri and Akash Neil Nandy will be competing in the GP2 and GP3 series on F1 weekend, while Khairul Idham Pawi, Adam Norrodin, and Hafizh Syahrin will go against world champions in the Moto2 and Moto3 during MotoGP weekend.
