The clever folks over at Information is Beautiful have just published this pretty nifty map showing what the every country in the world does best.
They found some amazing things: France has the most whisky drinkers; Nigeria, the most Scrabble players; China has the most jailed journalists; and Zambia tops the list for most female entrepreneurs.
To design the map, the team collected material from a databases across the world, including the CIA, World Bank, Reuters and Forbes. Then the researchers divided the information into 9 categories: commodity, ecology, economy, gastronomy, humanity, nasty, nicety, psychology and technology.
In Southeast Asia, Thailand has the most rice; the Philippines has the highest level of social networking; Vietnam, the most pepper; Singapore, the healthiest people and Malaysia the most rubber gloves.
It’s no surprise that Malaysia is the top dog when in comes to production of the yellow latex products – local man Lim Wee Chai has made US$680 million from his company, Top Glove, which is one of the largest producers of rubber gloves in the world.
What about your country?
Some countries have some quite predictable top production items, for example pop music in Sweden and vanilla in Madagascar, but there certainly are a few surprises, such as Lithuania having the fastest Wi-Fi and Liberia having the lowest public debt.
