The KYUEM DofE Silver Trial in the Cameron Highlands, led by Mr Ian Boler, was an exceedingly successful expedition on 8-10 September with eight students showing great fitness and endurance! On Friday, we trekked from Habu up jungle Trails 9a and 9 to Tana Rata requiring teamwork to overcome fallen trees and steep ravines, then took easy Trail 4 to the busy campsite.
On Saturday, in cool cloud, we trekked up Trail 11 until a steep section up forested ridge Trail 10 to Gunung Jasar (1,698m) with lovely views. We headed down challenging Trail 6 along ridges and steep valleys to the picturesque Cameron Valley plantation teahouse.
Sunday’s was the most difficult climb, up Gunung Berembun (1,826m), taking Trail 3 up very steep, muddy slopes to the summit. From the peak, we descended the initially steep Trail 7, using ropes, to the finish in Tana Rata, closing out an excellent weekend.
