The Prince of Wales Island International Primary School, POWIIS Primary, will open in September 2019 on a five-acre site on Jalan Loh Poh Heng in Tanjung Bungah. POWIIS Primary was officially launched by YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng, the Chief Minister of Penang, Dato Dr Kenny Ong, Group Executive Chairman of the MTT Group of Companies, and Dato Lim Kean Seng, Executive Director of BSG Property on Saturday 7th of October 2017.
MTT Learning Academy is collaborating with BSG Property for this architecturally designed and purpose-built school which will offer 800 places for children aged 3 to 11 years old. It will now be possible for young children to benefit from the expertise and success that this company has developed in the Prince of Wales Island International School, which is their secondary school in Botanica CT in Balik Pulau.
Every feature of the school, both inside and outside, is designed with the children’s learning at the forefront of the architectural vision. There will be specialist areas in science, music, the arts, and sports, which will include a swimming pool and a multipurpose hall. The school will be teaching the English National Curriculum with the early years pupils (aged 3 to 4 years old) following the Foundation Stage before moving on to Key Stage 1 (aged 5 to 6 years old) and Key Stage 2 (aged 7 to 11 years old).
Specialist languages will also be taught in the language classrooms provided including Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia and French. There will also be on offer an extensive range of after-school activities which will provide after school care solutions to working parents as well encouraging confidence, independence and a breadth of interest in the pupils. POWIIS Primary will emulate its secondary counterpart by recruiting staff of a high calibre predominantly from the UK and the international circuit.
