For another year, the Malaysian British Society (MBS) has come together to give back to the local community. This year’s focus will be on supporting IDEAS Academy, a charitable secondary school education provider for underprivileged youth in Malaysia.
Founded in 2012, IDEAS Academy is a joint venture between a local, non-profit think tank, Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), and the Dutch foundation, the Stichting Young Refugee Cause (YRC). Working closely with the Education Department of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Malaysia, their aim is to educate refugee and stateless children who are not entitled to either government-sanctioned or private secondary education.
Since then, they have expanded to teaching a record number of 125 students as of 2017 but aim to accommodate even more this year. With their upcoming charity dinner, you can help in making their goal a reality, knowing that every cent spent would be used to provide access to quality education to marginalized youth, giving them a brighter future. Be entertained by the students themselves! They have put together a musical production of the Lion King, so don’t miss the chance to see them in action.
The society will be having their charity dinner on February 10th from 7.30pm at TPC Kuala Lumpur.
