Opened in 2011, Prince of Wales Island International School (POWIIS) continues to build its reputation in Penang and beyond. In 2017 POWIIS was shortlisted in the British International School Awards in London for its innovative student welfare programmes.
For 2018, the school is again shortlisted this time in the Times Education Supplement (TES) prestigious UK Independent Schools awards, as one of only four schools in the ‘International School of the Year’ section (the only school in Asia). Principal Simon Leese notes: “We are building our Sixth Form. There are many options for students, but we are determined to be the clear A level destination of choice in the region. The TES recognises our ambition, our quality and our innovation. Whatever the outcome in February in London, we are delighted to be ‘on the map’ of the top schools around the world.”
