In recent years, stand-up comedy has really taken off in Malaysia. Besides the household names such as Harith Iskander and Joanne Kam, many others are now taking to the stage and offering their own brand of comedy. With comedy clubs such as Crackhouse Comedy Club and Livehouse, stand-up is also made readily available and more accessible to the public than before. The growing appreciation for stand-up has also encouraged more international comedians to perform here, like the recent show by Jo Koy and upcoming Jimmy Carr show in September.
Kavin Jay is from this new breed of Malaysian stand-up comedians, and one of only two Malaysians to have their own Netflix comedy special, joining the ranks of notable comedians like Russell Peters and Gabriel Iglesias. His honest brand of humour resonates with younger Malaysians, as he pokes fun at relationships and being a Malaysian Indian.
Following the success of the Netflix Original ‘Everybody Calm Down’ which began streaming on the Netflix platform as of February this year, Kavin will debut his nationwide live comedy tour this August 2018.
“KAVIN JAY: ANGER MANAGEMENT”, held from August 3-18 in cities around the country, will be staged at TGV Cinemas around the country, in collaboration with the popular cinema brand. “We aim to offer our customers the best content and entertainment that is beyond movies. We also take pride in providing a venue which caters to an array of events, giving guests a comfortable and memorable experience.” said Mr. Sisubalan Ehambaram, Distribution Manager of TGV Pictures Sdn Bhd, at the press conference of the launch recently.
“I have not done a solo tour before, and I think it is high time I did. I love performing for Malaysians and if they can’t come to me, I’ll go to them. It is always so much fun to make my fellow Malaysians laugh, and especially after all that we have been through these past few weeks, I think a little entertainment is in order!” said Kavin Jay.
His journey has been a nothing short of an adventure. The 38-year-old comedian has been doing comedy since 2006, but if it weren’t for his late brother, Kavin would not have ventured into comedy. It was a journey of trial and error where he eventually learnt that the art of comedy has its own science and methodology behind it.
Kavin in now setting foot in eight cities across Malaysia and this nationwide tour is said to be one of the largest national comedy tours in Malaysia. Joining Kavin on this very much anticipated tour is Mister Potato’s Papi Zak and up-and-coming comedian Brian Tan. The programme begins at 9.30pm and the ticket price will be ranging from RM88 to RM108. Early bird tickets ranging from RM78 to RM98 are available now.
“KAVIN JAY: ANGER MANAGEMENT” tour is geared to be an hour of all-new material filled with unbelievable stories of his life, including all the bad choices he has made that has taught him to be a better person and even better Malaysian.
