Alex Yoong Malaysia’s first F1 driver is set to lead Team Malaysia as it’s Team Principal in the first ever FIA GT Nations Cup to be held at the Bahrain International Circuit.
The race which takes place on the 1st of December 2018 will showcase a full grid of 30 cars, each represented by a country hopeful to win the race and emerge triumphant as the 2018 Nations Cup Champion.
Representing Team Malaysia will be Zen Low and Mitchell Cheah who are amongst the best GT drivers in Asia. They will be driving the a GT3 car proudly bearing the Malaysian flag on its livery. The GT3 cars are known to have over 550hp under their hoods and is expected to reach speeds 270kph on the long straights in Bahrain.
The Malaysian Team will be made up of Sarawak born Zen Low, who has been racing for over 10 years and is currently participating in the noteworthy Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific Series.
Zen’s co-driver is Mitchell Cheah who hails from Kuala Lumpur and who was crowned in July 2018 as the TCR Southeast Asia champion — Mitchell’s inaugural race in the TCR Series under the mentorship of Alex Yoong.
Team Principal Alex Yoong is not only Malaysia’s premier Formula One driver but also founded and directed the A1 Team Malaysia from 2005 – 2008 in the A1GP World Cup of Nations. A1 Team Malaysia won four races and until recently was
Malaysia’s only success in motorsports at that level.
On the FIA GT Nations Cup, Alex says, “Both Zen and Mitchell have been very disciplined and rigorous in their training regime. They’ve been focusing on their strengths and are determined to make a good showing in Bahrain.” This would be both drivers first attempt at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain which boasts a track that extends 5.412km long and made more interesting with 15 exciting turns.
