In the largest celebration ever to commemorate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), 8,165 Malaysians held hands all around Sunway City marking the third UNSDG anniversary, since its launch in 2015. The number 8,165 represents the distance in nautical miles from Sunway University to the UN’s headquarters in New York.
At this incredible event, 17 speakers took the stage, each for a one-minute address regarding one Sustainable Development Goal. Speakers included such diverse personalities as the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah; Malaysian singer-songwriter Reshmonu; Netherlands Ambassador HE Karin Mossenlechner; National Geographic Explorer filmaker Rachel Quek Siew Yean; Deloitte Country Managing Partner Yee Wing Peng; Sunway Group Executive Director Sarena Chea; and Trustee of Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, Tunku Abidin Muhriz. These and other speakers addressed a host of laudable goals, including No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Affordable and Clean Energy, Industry Innovation, Responsible Consumption and Production, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Climate Action, Reduced Inequalities, and more.
All 8,165 participants were presented with a certificate of participation and SDG badges as a memento of this unique event.
