The Power of Choice – Advanced Placement or IB Diploma Track?
Choosing the right school, academic program, and university pathway are among the most significant challenges parents will face throughout their child’s education. Raffles American School understands and accepts these challenges by offering high school students two world-class academic tracks; the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma track and the Advanced Placement (AP) track.
As the first and only school in Johor to provide these two diverse pathways, Raffles American School provides flexibility for every learner to pursue an abundance of post-secondary academic opportunities. Tailored programs to advanced learners are provided, and students who choose to take AP or IB courses can earn college credits recognized by university admissions across the globe.
Not every child is the same, and choosing one of these pathways can be a daunting prospect for any parent. Raffles American School takes the guesswork out of finding the right path, and a dedicated counseling service team will help you and your child find the right fit for their academic success.
Regardless of what track is chosen, all Raffles American School graduates will receive a US-accredited High School Diploma, which universities across the globe recognize. Additionally, Raffles American School is a certified SAT test center and a certified TOEFL test center, providing test prep and specialized courses for each.
A Word from One of This Year’s Graduating Class
Hi! My name is Hannah, and I’m a Senior at Raffles American School. I joined as a boarding student when I was in 10th Grade, so this is my third year at RAS. I would consider myself to be hard-working, enthusiastic, and outgoing.
Living in a boarding school is akin to having one big extended family. As a family, we are always there for each other, both socially, emotionally, and academically. With the added pastoral care from the dedicated and friendly boarding staff and teachers, living in boarding has helped me develop personally and academically while assisting me in becoming a cultured global citizen for university and beyond.
One of my fondest memories at RAS Boarding would be the Neon Night Party held by Mr. Chris, our Director of Boarding. We had many similar events, but I think this event was my favorite because all the students came downstairs and played a fun and engaging selection of games with the teachers and boarding staff. It was definitely one of those moments when I felt like I was at home with my family and not at boarding school.
I know that being in boarding school has taught me two fundamental traits; responsibility and independence. There is no one to clean up your bedroom for you or tidy your closet. So I now have a routine to do these simple chores that enable me to have a clean and organized living environment, and therefore a productive mind.
Finishing my high school education is just around the corner, and Raffles American School has helped me to achieve my goal of being accepted into my chosen university. I have just received an acceptance letter from the very prestigious New York University (NYU). I am so happy and can not wait to begin my studies in the US.
2020 has been a challenging year for everyone around the world, but what I have learned from this past year is never give up, keep trying, and do your best! You will never know the result unless you give it a try.
