If you’re a singing and dancing sensation who is under 15 and have your sights set on Broadway, you do not want to pass on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
The Sound of Music is one of the most successful Broadway musicals of all time, winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, as well as the Grammy Award for Best Show Album.
Adapted from the 1965 film of the same name starring Dame Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, it went on to win five Academy Awards including for Best Picture.
Still very much a beloved classic, the musical will be directed by three-time Tony award-winner and broadway veteran, Jack O’Brian, and produced by the Broadway International Group.
Perhaps the best part of this upcoming show is the casting call put out by the production company looking for some local junior talent! A lucky group of Malaysian children will get the chance to play all 6 roles of the famous Von Trapp children in the iconic musical, staged in December at Istana Budaya.
Eighteen children are to be selected and put into three separate casts, with each child expected to be skilled in acting, dancing, and singing. Auditions will be held at the Grand Hall in the Dominicus Art Venue at Wangsa Maju on 28 and 29 June, 2022 for the roles.
“It is huge for Malaysia to be having its first international musical after a two-and-a-half years hiatus because of the pandemic,” said Base Entertainment Chairman Datuk Jared Lim.
Lim said the collaboration between local and broadway talent will take the Malaysian live arts to another level.
Broadway International executive producers Simone Garett and Marc Routh said they have been excited to bring the musical to Kuala Lumpur for years.
The Sound Of Music last performed in KL in June 2011 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, featuring a London cast. Tickets for upcoming The Sound Of Music will go on sale at the end of June.
