The Penang edition of Malaysia’s biggest whisky show comes just three months ahead of the hotly anticipated Kuala Lumpur event.

WhiskyPLUS Penang, held on July 20, 2024, at the luxurious new Marriott Penang hotel, was a resounding success, drawing praise from scores of delighted guests. This premier event, proudly organized by TEG Media, showcased over 60 brands of whisky and other fine spirits from across the globe.

The event, which drew nearly 300 guests over the full six-hour session, featured esteemed sponsors and partners such as Maserati, Mister Coffee, Spritzer, and Monin. Guests delighted in viewing the gorgeous Maserati cars on display at the event, and VIP pass holders went home with goodie bags filled with treats from all the WhiskyPLUS sponsors.

Of course, all attendees had the pleasure of unlimited sampling, enjoying whiskies from renowned distilleries including The Glenlivet, Kilchoman, Teeling Whiskey, Balblair, Old Pulteney, Aberlour, and Deanston, among many, many others.

The event also highlighted independent bottlers like Auld Goonsy’s, Douglas Laing, White & Mackay, Blackadder, and Hunter Laing, providing unique and rare expressions for whisky enthusiasts, while Japanese whiskies from Ontake (Japan’s newest distillery) and Ichiro’s Malt added a nice flair to the lineup. Throughout the event, attractively priced bottle purchases were offered to guests keen to grow their own home collections.

In addition to the Scotch, Irish, and Japanese selections, WhiskyPLUS presented a diverse array of whiskies from the United States, South Africa, Taiwan, and Australia. Gin lovers were also catered to with exquisite offerings from France, the UK, Thailand, and Scotland.

A well-appointed and spacious VIP Lounge offered a swanky retreat for guests, along with an extra spread of delicious food, refreshing beverages, and comfortable seating.

For the first time in Penang, WhiskyPLUS offered its Collector’s Corner, always a popular option in KL, where guests can try old and rare whiskies by the dram.

There was also a sold-out World Whiskies Masterclass, the class another first for the Penang edition, hosted by WhiskyPLUS Event Director Chad Merchant, who shared not only plenty of expert knowledge with attendees, but also led the class in sampling five whiskies of various styles and origins.

The stunning new Marriott Penang hotel, which opened earlier this year, provided the perfect backdrop for this celebration and enjoyment of fine spirits, ensuring a memorable experience for all who attended. The wonderful team at the Marriott Penang not only provided guests with a selection of excellent food to complement their whisky tasting experience, they delivered terrific service, too. Many of the guests raved about the venue, particularly pointing out the great food and outstanding ambiance of Penang’s newest five-star hotel.
