Malaysia’s biggest and best whisky and spirits tasting event broadened and diversified its offerings this year more than ever before.
Returning for its sixth edition in Kuala Lumpur (and ninth overall), WhiskyPLUS once again set up at the Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur in its 7,200-sq ft grand ballroom on October 26, 2024. Hundreds of enthusiasts gathered for Malaysia’s premier whisky and spirits tasting event, ready to enjoy unlimited tastings, lively interactions with brand representatives, a festive atmosphere with like-minded people, and a host of offerings for an unforgettable event.
This year’s event featured over 120 whisky and spirit brands, ranging from established names to new craft labels, many of which were made available for sampling. WhiskyPLUS exhibitors also offered special event-day bottle prices, which guests were eager to take advantage of.
Scotland, of course, was the most well-represented whisky-producing country (on its own accounting for over 50 brands), but an impressive range of single malt and blended whiskies were also offered from Australia, Ireland, Japan, India, the United States, South Africa, and France.
Gins and rums were also showcased, from a wide and eclectic array of countries, with gins hailing from England, Italy, Spain, Australia, France, Belgium, Japan, and even Vietnam. Rums, meanwhile, seemed to represent a who’s who of rum producers in and around the Caribbean, including Panama, Guatemala, Barbados, Cuba, Jamaica, Venezuela, and others.
WhiskyPLUS in 2024 saw a record number of Japanese whisky labels (17), Cognacs/brandies (6), and independent bottlers (23), while even craft vodkas, premium tequilas, and fan favourite Moutai Bulao from China made appearances, as well.
VIP guests were treated to an exclusive lounge sponsored by Royal Salute, where not only were several expressions of the premium Scotch brand being served, but where T’Lur Caviar showcased premium oscietra caviar tastings, adding a luxurious touch to the experience. For the cigar aficionados, La Casa del Habano’s booth was a popular spot, where guests perused Cuban cigars and learned more about the world of fine cigars.
Those with a taste for cocktails weren’t disappointed either, thanks to Locker & Loft’s on-site bar, serving fresh, curated cocktails throughout the day. Elsewhere on the floor, other exhibitor booths offered mini-bars and cocktails of their own. For those seeking a refreshing change, Monin was on hand with their non-alcoholic cocktails, providing tasty booze-free alternatives to enjoy between tastings.
WhiskyPLUS 2024’s VIP attendees had the opportunity to take a deeper dive into the world of whisky (and rum) through six masterclasses led by industry experts. Highlights included sessions on Archie Rose Distilling Co., Planteray Rum, the Diageo Special Releases 2023, and the unique Ontake Japanese Whisky. These sessions allowed VIP guests to explore the nuances of each brand and learn from top representatives in the field.
As usual, the Collector’s Corner booths at WhiskyPLUS proved popular, with guests able to purchase uniquely old and rare whiskies by the dram.
