With AirAsia exiting Subang Airport, Batik Air steps up to expand its presence, boosting flight frequencies and introducing new routes as it backs the government’s vision to transform Subang into a leading regional hub.
Batik Air is poised to strengthen its foothold at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, commonly known as Subang Airport, with plans to increase flight frequencies and introduce new routes in the coming months.
In a statement, the airline expressed its support for the government’s initiative to transform Subang Airport into a premier regional aviation hub.
“By enhancing connectivity and accessibility, we aim to contribute to the airport’s growth as a dynamic gateway for both business and leisure travellers,” the airline stated.
Batik Air CEO Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy emphasised the airline’s full commitment to Subang’s transformation, recognising its potential as a modern city airport.
“Our expanded presence will offer travellers greater choice and convenience while reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a key aviation hub in the region,” he said.
Chandran also urged regulatory bodies, including the Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom), and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, to expedite the allocation of additional flight slots at Subang.

Batik Air’s move comes shortly after AirAsia announced it would be relocating its domestic jet operations from Subang to Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA2) starting April 7.
AirAsia cited rising passenger demand between Kuala Lumpur and key destinations such as Kota Kinabalu and Kuching – up 16% year-on-year – as the key reason for consolidating operations at KLIA2.
“While Subang Airport is convenient, especially for city-bound travellers, its redevelopment to support future growth will take time. In the meantime, consolidating operations at KLIA2 will allow us to improve efficiency and enhance the overall guest experience,” AirAsia said in a statement.
With AirAsia’s departure, Batik Air is set to capitalize on the available slots and expects to play a more prominent role in Subang Airport’s evolution as a key regional aviation hub.
