Amazon.com is the largest online shopping website in the world, and they ship some of their products to Malaysia. Before discussing that, here’s some background about Amazon.
Amazon is one of the oldest online retailers. The website was launched in 1995 and originally sold only books. Customers can find almost any product on the website including jewellery, CDs, electronic gadgets, toys and clothing. Apart from offering products from other brands, Amazon.com is most well known for its own electronic services, like the Kindle reader for reading books and Amazon Prime for streaming online videos.
Further supporting Amazon’s popularity is that fact that the Alexa ranking website ranks Amazon.com the number 5th website in the United States. Additionally, Amazon has over 18 million Facebook followers.

Amazon Only Delivers Some Products to Malaysia
The good news is that you can use Amazon to purchase and deliver some products to Malaysia. The bad news is that there is also a lot of products Amazon won’t deliver to Malaysia. One way people in Malaysia can find out if an Amazon product ships internationally is by looking at the product details page. If you see a note saying, “This item is also available for shipping to select countries outside the U.S.”, then there is a good chance the product ships to Malaysia.
The best way to know for sure whether Amazon delivers a product to Malaysia is to select an item and see if you can purchase it. If Amazon doesn’t deliver a product to Malaysia, then Amazon won’t let you select Malaysia as a delivery destination during your checkout, and you won’t be able to complete your transaction.
In fact, Amazon prompts this statement when you look for more details about why a product won’t deliver to a country, such as Malaysia:
“Warranty issues and manufacturer restrictions prevent us from shipping certain products to all geographical locations.
Buyers outside the U.S. cannot purchase the following types of items from sellers:
- video games
- toy and baby items
- electronics
- cameras and photo items
- tools and hardware
- kitchenware and housewares
- sporting goods and outdoor equipment
- software
- computers.”
The categories mentioned above certainly crosses out a lot of items for us to purchase in Malaysia! However, at least we can still purchase some books, clothes, music, DVDs, among other things.
On a related note, anecdotal feedback we gathered about Amazon’s delivery service to Malaysia seems quite good. Some people we’ve discussed with have stated that delivery to Malaysia has been been timely and, if products did not arrive, full refunds were granted. Additionally, when you purchase something on Amazon, you can track the complete delivery path. In other words, you can track the time and locations of the product while it’s on route.
It’s also very easy to open an account on Amazon and start shopping.
You can visit the Amazon website here.

I understand that hoverboard has been banned over airline transportation. Since Amazon hoverboard has been certified for safety, why cant it be transported minus the battery. After all the battery is the cause of most fires and explosion. There is great risk of buying the product from China or from ebay or Alibaba. The battery can be supplied from local manufacturers or importers.

Can i ask if i can buy board games from Amazon and ship it to Malaysia?
I had bought CDs and DVDs from Amazon. Their service was faultless. But——my purchases were all very unpleasant experiences. Amazon sent parcles to Malaysia by ordinary parcel post. The parcels never reached me. I inquired the Pos Malaysia office, and the answers were “we can’t trace the items”. Just to make the postmaster’s life difficult, I visited that post office EVERYDAY for a few weeks and inquired on the same matters. The postmaster did not manage to give me a satisfactory answer till the end. But I know in my heart some people in Malaysia are enjoying those CDs and DVDs that I bought with my hard earn money.

Can we buy the instant videos purchased on amazon and watch them in malaysia?
Unfortunately not. Here’s a tip for watching Netflix in Malaysia though: http://leapingpost.com/2013/09/08/how-to-watch-tv-shows-and-movies-online-netflix-hulu-malaysia/
Hi Nick, Kindle Malaysia has successfully allowed all Kindle Malaysia fans to purchase /rent Paid/Prime Amazon Instant movies/Netflix/Hulu Plus, etc. in Malaysia across devices (i.e. smart TV, tablets, laptop, etc.) using a Simple Plug & Play router named WaysToUS with 1 year FREE DNS service.
Thanks for this info. I’ll mention this in a separate reply to Debbie. Cheers.
HI Debbie, per below, Kindle Malaysia just notified me that they are offering a product that allows you to watch Amazon Instant Videos in Malaysia. You can see below.
I would like to buy magnifier for my factory use. http://www.amazon.com/Mighty-Bright-Vusion-Craft-Light/dp/B002768HT6/ref=sr_1_88?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1388146807&sr=1-88&keywords=magnifier. Can I ?
Hi Ruth, yes you can buy that on Amazon.com and ship it to Malaysia.
how about headphones?
Hi there – based on my experience, I haven’t been able to buy headphones through Amazon for shipping to Malaysia. I’ve tried purchasing Bose Headphones and Sony Headphones, but both times I was blocked from buying them. This falls under the electronics category, which are usually blocked in Malaysia by Amazon.
can i buy blu ray from amazon? is it safe?
Hi Aidid,
Yes, you should be fine ordering blu-rays from Amazon.com and shipping to Malaysia. A friend of mine in Malaysia does this and hasn’t experienced any issues.
Hiii Nick, it possible to buy these following item?

Hi Mirla – sorry to disappoint you but those products can’t be delivered to Malaysia from Amazon.com.
Hi Nick, I try to purchase sport watch from Amazon and they are able to ship it to Malaysia. The total cost: device + handling charges will cost around rm250. but i’m afraid if i need to pay any additional amount when the product delivered due to custom fee etc. can u advise?
Hi Mira, from my understanding you shouldn’t have to pay any additional fees. However, if there is a Malaysian tax associated with the watch, and customs checks your package, customs will make you pay the tax.
I want to buy ps4 from Amazon because it is much cheaper compared when buying in Malaysia. Do you think it safe? Im afraid the console will broke when I get it. :3
I think it should be safe – however, I don’t want to mislead, so let me be clear I’m not certain it would arrive in perfect condition. It’s just a best guess. Amazon is operates a pretty good delivery service. If worse comes to worst, you should be able to return it. For example, I know someone who ordered books from Amazon to Malaysia, and when they didn’t arrive he received a hassle free refund.
Can I buy small gadget like mini tv stick? Is there any problem in delivered to Malaysia? What about customs issue?
Unfortunately, most electronic devices can’t be purchased on Amazon for delivery to Malaysia. I tried to purchase one mini TV stick on Amazon from Malaysia, but it wouldn’t let me deliver it here. Perhaps try IPMart.com.my or Lazada.com.my?
Okay, thanks for your response.
Hi Nick, I have another question, what about toy with electronic component, like scale train set?
I think those should be okay. It might depend on the train set though. For example, you should be able to order these train sets on Amazon and deliver to Malaysia:
Bachmann Trains: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006KQGJ8/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

why cant these books be delivered to malaysia
1) Spanish Cuban American war & the birth of American imperialism vol. 1 & 2, Philip s. foner.
2) Spanish American war & President McKinley, Lewis L. Gould
3) Spanish War: An American Epic 1898, G. J.’A. O’Toole
TQ
Hi Chui Tin. Thanks for posting. I just searched for the books on Amazon and added them to the shopping cart to check out. I didn’t have any issues proceeding to buy and deliver to Malaysia.
One thing you should note is that if you want to buy on Amazon for delivery to Malaysia, you must buy the books sold directly from Amazon – not third-party sellers on Amazon.
Here are two examples of trying to buy the same book for delivery to Malaysia.
Example A: You can buy the Spanish War book on this Amazon page because it’s being sold directly from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/The-Spanish-War-American-Epic/dp/0393303047/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381655304&sr=8-1&keywords=Spanish+War%3A+An+American+Epic+1898%2C+G.+J.%27A.+O%27Toole
Example B: However, you cannot buy the same Spanish War book on this Amazon page because this one is being sold by a third party on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/The-Spanish-War-American-Epic–1898/dp/B009T6KUNI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1381655304&sr=8-4&keywords=Spanish+War%3A+An+American+Epic+1898%2C+G.+J.%27A.+O%27Toole
Hope that helps. If not, perhaps you can advise me of the error message you encountered. And/or also share the direct links to the books you tried to buy.
thank you very much. nick, for the explanation. regards, chui tin

Do confirm whether Standard shipping is up to and only to Singapore only.
Hi Alex – sorry, I don’t exactly understand your question about “Standard shipping is up to and only to Singapore). I’ll try to answer below though.
For shipping to Singapore from Amazon, the cheapest shipping method is “AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping (Averages 9 to 12 days)”
For other countries, like Malaysia, the cheapest shipping method is “Standard International Shipping (Averages18-32 Days)”.
Furthermore, if you’d like to get an idea of the difference in costs, lets consider the example of buying the book called “Gone Girl”. If I were to order and ship the book “Gone Girl” on Amazon to an address in KL, Malaysia, the Standard International Shipping would cost about RM 35.37.
However, if I were to order that same book to Singapore, using the equivalent shipping method called “AmazonGlobal Stand Shipping”. It would cost S$ 9.98 (~RM 26.16).
Hi Alex,
Typically third-party products sold on Amazon don’t ship overseas, from my experience. I think it’s the individual seller’s decision, but I’ve heard Amazon might block transactions for third party sales to some countries too. Thus, I don’t think you can order & ship the secondhand books you mentioned to Singapore from Amazon.
You would have to buy the original books directly from Amazon.com. For example, you can order the Forbes book to Singapore, if you purchase the one sold by Amazon (not second hand / third party ones), which I’ve linked below. Unfortunately, the original ones are significantly more expensive.

Good question, good answer, –I think I will check it out–sending USA to Malaysia
Thanks for the simple summary. I buy books on Amazon a lot, since the selection so is so huge. Sometimes I also buy blu-ray movies, so get the movies uncensored with maximum quality. I’ve never had any issues receiving them in Malaysia through Amazon. At least not yet!
