Apple announced new iPhone products on Tuesday, 11 September 2013. There were some surprises but also quite a few things that were widely expected. We’ve highlighted the major takeaways from the event.
Two new iPhones: iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C
Apple announced two new iPhones: the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C.
iPhone 5C
The iPhone 5C has been widely predicted, and it is a cheaper version of the iPhone. It appears that the iPhone 5C will have many of the capabilities of the iPhone 5. One noticeable difference is the physical design, as this iPhone’s rear body comprises a colored polycarbonate. The iPhone 5C is being offered in the following colors: white, red, yellow, green, and blue.
The price of the iPhone 5C is cheaper but not significantly. In the United States, the iPhone 5C will be priced at US$ 100 (~ RM 320) less than the iPhone 5S.
iPhone 5S
Here are some of the new features of the iPhone 5S. This upgraded iPhone version will be offered in silver, space grey (basically, black), and gold colors. Additionally, the phone will be much faster, operating with an A7 processor for 64-bit architecture.
The phone will also have an improved camera. The camera’s aperature will be better for taking photos in low light settings, and the improved flash should result in higher quality pictures. Additionally, there is a feature to take rapid photographs in bursts of 10 shots. And the panorama mode can now take 28 megapixel shots.
Another notable technological advancement is the finger print scanner. Instead of using a passcode, you can now use this scanner to unlock the phone and for accessing the iTunes store to make purchases. It’s unclear whether this will actually increase the phone’s security or just allow users to operate the phone more efficiently.
The iPhone’s new operating system: iOS 7
In June of this year (2013), Apple announced a new flat design operating system for the mobile phone. As expected, this is the operating system coming with the new smartphones. In addition to the modified look, the operating system has some key changes in functionality, such as new multi-tasking, control center, and notifications center.
A couple of the operating system’s cool features include AirDrop and Share Sheet. AirDrop lets you wirelessly drop files from your phone directly to another iPhone nearby. Share Sheet will make it easier to share content with friends via social networks.

Apple’s premium iPhone apps are now free
Several of Apple’s popular, useful apps are now free. More specifically, when you purchase a new mobile iPhone, iPad, or 5th generation iPod touch, you can now download iWork, Keynote, Pages, Numbers, iPhoto, and iMovie for free. Typically these apps cost US$ 4.99 (RM 15+) to US$ 9.99 (RM 30+).
The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C will be available in nine countries starting 20 September 2013. This includes Singapore. By December, Apple expects the iPhone to be available in over 100 countries. You can see the new iPhones for sale on Apple’s Singapore online store here.
It’s still unclear when the new iPhone will be available in Malaysia.

Nothing new about the their so called new iPhoneC and iPhone5S. Even given to me free cash to choose whether wanted to buy it, I also won’t choose the iPhone. Man, is nothing about innovation.
I’m more interested about their iPad5 come along with the new iOS7 feature and hardware capabilities.
Right now let just wait for the Sony Xperia Z1 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 reach our Malaysia market.
Thanks for the comment.
I’d love a new iPhone for free! Even though Apple seems to be lacking a bit, I’m still a big Apple fan; most of my major gadgets are made by Apple and they complement each other really well.
However, I do agree that Apple has not been delivering big leaps in innovation. They haven’t released anything to the degree of “incredible” in a while. They used to lead the pack but now seems to be running with the group a lot – even following at times. Hopefully Apple has some big things cooking in the oven.
I’m also very interested about the new iPad 5. We’ll be sure to cover that on Leaping Post!
