Netflix arrives in Malaysia

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It finally happened! Popular internet television network, Netflix, is now available to people in Malaysia following the announcement by Co-founder and Chief Executive of Netflix, Rees Hastings, at CES 2016. Hastings announced that Netflix is now available in more than 130 countries worldwide. A full list can be found here or at the bottom of this article.

netflix arrives in Malaysia

Members will be able to watch Netflix original series as well as other catalogue and licensed TV shows and movies for a monthly free of RM33. This year, Netflix plans on releasing 31 new and original series, a handful of feature films and documentaries as well as a wide range of comedy series and kids series, all of which are available to every member in the world simultaneously.

Netflix is also available on tablets, smartphones, personal computers, and any other device with an internet connection. You can sign up for a one month free trial at netflix.com/my

The video below showcases the shows that are available on Netflix. Happy viewing!

The global release by Netflix means that internet television service iflix now has some strong competition. This is great news for residents of Malaysia, who now have options. iflix, which is also available in Philippines and Thailand, costs RM8 per month, and was, up till now, the only internet television network in the country.

So how will this affect iflix and which internet television network will be more popular here? We’ll just have to wait and see – and maybe watch a movie or two in the meantime.

I watched movies & dramas & game shows from China (produced there) streaming from their internet TV channels from here in Malaysia and its free. I use Celcom dataplan.

Claudia Vieira

Paulo Pereira

Great but they should say it earlier aha

Claudia Vieira

Any way read something about local content (no way) Jesus! Guess is not so good news! I just got happy lolololol!

Djuan Onn Abdul Rahman

Clash of IPTV…Iflix vs Netflix.

Sterling Nic

Shows in Malaysia are not the same as US … cheats..

Octavia Hardy

Why pay and doesnt provide satisfactions with loads of restriction and censorship, delays and limited movies to watch while here we are can stream online freely, great hd quality no censors with so much more movies or tv shows to choose from? I dont get it.

Alexander Yap

Lots free sites FOC l….no need pay…..Netflix don’t even have house of cards..Cheh rm33 monthly,,.no way……

Karen Danker

Goodbye Astro n Welcome Netflix

Nik Faeez

Now i can netflix and chill

Shamsul Nizam

Why go for Netflix local content? Subscribe for US act. and get yourself a smart dns service. You can have the advantage of changing the region if you wish to. Errr.. not just Netflix… this apply to Hulu, Amazon, Sling etc..

Expat Go Malaysia

The main reason is because changing your DNS violates Netflix’s terms of service Shamsul 😉

Shamsul Nizam

There is always a way… Its either the easy way or the hard way bos… ?

Murali Pjcc

You have a good suggestion

Shamsul Nizam

Open sources vs premium services. Quality wise goes to premium. Varieties goes to Kodi for sure.

Colin Andrew Pereira

Is it possible to download programs n watch off line?

Matt Razal

Just subscribe to US Netflix over vpn. LOVE the AHS series 😀

Johan Akmalbudi Kasah

Who have subscribe check if first episode of Orange is the new Black censored or not.

Alexander Yap

Our govt just said going censored…u can go other sites foc……uncensored…I’m watching house of cards uncensored season 3 oledi…no need pay..

Ou Chee Voi

I am watching Jessica Jones on Netflix and its not censored. I don’t think our government can do anything with Netflix. There are also other free options such as Kodi.

Ram Ganesan

Our “great” gomen will soon start bugging Netflix bcoz pretty boy, overpriced Astro monopoly will b threatened in long run. Netflix is just awesome, hope to see House of Card come here (watching Malaysia one, no VPN sadly). Lol

Alexander Yap

House of cards r only for USA Netflix… U can go other free sites,l finished oledi,,.!!!!

Pro Detailers

Astro is virtually the same as MAS, PROTON and most Govt Depts. Lousy service, complacent,
lackadaisical, and offering low quality products.

Pro Detailers

Very soon, our dear “friends” might want to ban Netflix in Msia.

Not Malaysia Boleh.

Apa Pun Boleh Berlaku

Colin Roberts

Bye bye hyptv, possibly the world’s worst cable TV provider.

Alexander Yap

Hey ….I worked on this like 20 years ago,..hypo …yes it sucks !!!!!!!!!! Lol..lol..

Colin Roberts

Still showing the same shows

Divs Nur Shahila

How does this affect my data? I’ve never tried any of these before.

Expat Go Malaysia

Hi Divs – you’ll need to be really careful when using Netflix on 3G, video streaming can use a lot of data!

Ou Chee Voi

Unless you’re on unifi, better don’t subscribe to netflix

Expat Go Malaysia

Let us know your thoughts on it 🙂

Calvin Lok

Movies are OK. HD with 5.1 audio. Streaming is FAST. Lack of series though, eg Flash, or even the animated Star Wars Rebels. So far only found one Chinese drama, Empress something. Lotsa goodies for kids. Automatically save your ‘current’ play so can resume… And its across the platform be it PS4, PS3 or phone. How does the contents refresh? Monthly?

Jason J James

Thats 4 sure….bye bye astro

Expat Go Malaysia

It will be interesting to see how the competition reacts!

Murali Pjcc

Astro always putting old movies & drama only if got new movie only for 48hrs put still pay per view

Norway Castro Segundo

Precisely! Because astro is Shit…
