With three Golden Globe wins and 12 Academy Award nominations under its belt, including best picture, best director and best actor, The Revenant is finally coming to Malaysia.

Directed by the award-winning Alejandro G Iñárritu, this film is based, in part, on a book by Micheal Punke about the American fur trapper and frontiersman, Hugh Glass. Hugh Glass’s story is so grisly and so surreal that you would think it can’t be true… but it is. He survived being mauled by a bear to tell the tale and this story has been documented in a number of ways including a song called ‘Six Weeks‘ by indie folk-pop group Of Monsters and Men.

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter, the tale follows the path of Glass as he explores the uncharted American wilderness with his hunting team in search for pelts. Glass is then attacked to the point of near-death by a bear and left by his companions to die.

Glass doesn’t give in, though. Overcoming tremendous pain and great personal loss (we won’t tell you what!), he fights to survive as he makes his way through the unforgiving icy wilderness of in pursuit of redemption.

The film of this extraordinary tale doesn’t compromise on realism and DiCaprio’s compelling performance makes for what is guaranteed to be a riveting 156 minutes in the cinema.

Having already bagged the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor, we can only hope that this time, Leonardi di Caprio, who is nominated for an Oscar as Best Actor as well, will finally be awarded by the Academy for his splendid performance. Seriously guys, this has gone on way too long already! Do you think Leo will receive an Oscar this time?
