Nexus International School (Putrajaya) organised and hosted the annual conference of Southeast Asian Boarding Schools, aptly themed “More than a Hostel: A Holistic Approach to Boarding” recently, attended by delegates from international schools in Southeast Asia, such as Thailand and Hong Kong.

Since its inception in 2008, the conference brings together a number of the region’s top international schools with student boarding facilities to share best practice and discuss issues faced by boarding establishments within schools. The conference also addresses pastoral care of students at primary and secondary levels, and acts as a strong support network for educators alike: this was the first time this regional conference has been held in Malaysia.

“It is challenging for students to be away from home and living on school grounds; it is crucial for house parents to welcome and make them feel at home, as they adapt into a wider family at the boarding house. Quality boarding focuses on the whole being of a student and providing them a holistic environment to grow and mature. It has been great for the Nexus team to host this round of the conference, and to be reaffirmed that the approach we are following measures up with international best practice,” said Trevor Schubert, Nexus International School’s Director of Boarding.

Nexus International School (Putrajaya) provides boarding for boys and girls in Years 6 to 13 (10 to 18 years old). The programme aims to expose students to a wealth of knowledge and experiences to challenge and mould their minds, as well as to offer them the opportunity to build enduring friendships in a caring, well-equipped and secured environment.
