9. Ramadan bazaar

Ramadan bazaar

This year, the fasting month begins on 7th June. Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, is a holy month for Muslims all around the world, who will abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, and ill-natured behaviours from sunrise to sunset. Ramadan  is a time for cleansing the soul, focusing on God, and practising selflessness.

As with any festival, celebration, and event in Malaysia, food plays a pivotal role. Bazaars pop up in many neighbourhoods around the country every day during Ramandan, selling traditional Malay fare especially for Muslims who, after a long days of work and fasting, want a quick fix to break fast at the end of the day. Some food bazaars worth visiting are the ones in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kampung Baru and Shah Alam Stadium.

You’ll also probably be able to find a bazaar near you by checking the local municipal council websites. For those in KL and Selangor, you can refer to these lists on ipuasa.com/kl or ipuasa.com/selangor.

Venue: Various neighbourhoods around the country
Date: 7th June – 6th July
Time: 4pm – 7pm (depending on location)
