The upcoming Warna-Warni Aidilfitri (Colourful Aidilfitri) 2014 is an annual event organized by the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation, a statutory body under the Ministry of Culture, Art, and Heritage. First held in 2003, this 12-day event has become a highlight for all Malaysians. Though this is an event related to the holy month of Ramadan, it is celebrated not only by Malaysia’s multi-racial population, but also by both Muslim and non-Muslim tourists visiting the country. Last year’s event brought a record number of guests from all around Malaysia and beyond.
About the Event
Located at the “Golden Triangle” of Kuala Lumpur’s business district, the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex is a one-stop craft centre which offers visitors a unique variety of craft-related activities and programmes. It is a must-visit tourist destination in Kuala Lumpur.
The event is held to promote crafts, cuisines, souvenirs, and the rich culture Malaysia has to offer, and promises to be a spectacular cuisine and crafts bazaar. This year, the event will showcase an interesting mix of International Food & Craft Bazaar from various Muslim countries. Delicious halal food and delicacies, as well as authentic crafts and arts brought from various countries all around the globe, are set to headline the bazaar.
An Bazaar for Food Lovers
Food lovers will be well-pleased with the huge selections of Malaysia’s selected delicacies, foods, and gift hampers. Many other unique halal items, too, will be sourced to cater to the halal-hunters. Moreover, Malaysia’s famous songket and wide ranges of woven Muslim fashions, exotic jewelleries, unique souvenirs, and authentic arts and many other exclusive items will be showcased to lure those who find appeal in these unique and exotic items.
Unique Finds at the Bazaar
With the support of the Press Counsellor of Turkish Embassy in Malaysia, Mr. Bora E.R., the bazaar this year will be toned up with ranges of unique crafts and authentic souvenirs imported from Turkey. Visitors will find the famous Nazar Bonjuk (Evil Eye), a very traditional talisman from Turkey in various shapes and decorations, traditionally believed to protect against the evil eye and negative energy. Along with this, original Turkish silk scarves and hijabs also will be offered to cater to Muslim fashion shoppers. Additionally, a range of exclusive and selected Turkish silver and glass decorations also will be showcased for those whose passion is to adorn their homes with such resplendent items.
Not only that, Malaysia’s neighbouring country, Indonesia, will also participate and bring the best of their traditional beauty and wellness items, with selections of authentic Indonesian unique handicrafts and souvenirs. Of course, tasty Indonesian snacks and delicacies for people to indulge in will be in ample supply!
Other unique food and craft samplings from other Muslim-populated countries such as Iran, Lebanon, the Maldives, and others will also take part in the brisk International Food & Crafts section in Colourful Aidilfitri 2014.
Exciting Activities to Take Part in
In addition to the Local and International Food & Craft bazaar, where the rich variety of cuisines, handmade and traditionally crafted arts and hand crafts, imported or locally made will be presented, the event also will be enlivened with various activities such as exhibitions, interactive demonstrations, and competitions.
